Mumbai Flooded With Rain Water

Heavy rains in Mumbai have thrown life out of gear with reports of water logging coming from many parts of the city. Heavy rain and strong winds are causing huge delays at the Mumbai airport. The city received 60.77 mm rainfall since Tuesday. Colaba in south Mumbai received 78.6 mm and suburban Santacruz received 95.0 mm.


There have been reports of water logging from many parts of city. Water logging have been reported from Parel, Dadar, Andheri and Hindmata. Meanwhile, it has been reported that local trains are running 10-15 minutes late while flights have been delayed by 30 minutes.

Five flights have been diverted, including one Air India Chennai flight. According to Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai Commissioner 200 pumps are being used for pumping out water from water logged areas. 

Any tide above 4.5 metres coupled with heavy rains is a matter of concern," Joint Municipal Commissioner S S Shinde told.

In the Thane district on the outskirts of Mumbai, eight persons were killed and four injured when a wall collapsed on Wednesday morning. The incident took place around 4.30am when the boundary wall of Dosti Constructions in Vartak Nagar suburb of Dyaneshwar Nagar area in Thane suddenly collapsed on the hutments adjacent to the wall, trapping the people who were fast asleep.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall, thundershowers and strong winds in the city in the next couple of days.
