Terminal 3 Of IGI Airport

The New terminal or Terminal 3 (T3), which is claimed to be the sixth largest in the world in terms of its size of 5.4 million square feet, would handle both domestic and international traffic with a capacity to handle 34 million passengers per annum. The other large international airports include the ones at Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong and Bangkok.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have business centres, malls, a 100-room transit hotel and a galaxy of reputed shopping chain brands covering 20,000 square metres of retail space.

All international carriers, operating from Delhi, would shift their operations from the existing international terminal or T2 to T3 on July 14.

Besides three functional runways, the T3 would have, among other things, 168 check-in counters, 78 aerobridges (more than 64 in Singapore), 97 travelators and a multi-level air-conditioned car park to accommodate 4,300 cars.

Among its aerobridges are those which can serve over 500 passengers flying in the super-jumbo Airbus A-380, which is the largest aircraft in the world now.

Apart from escalators and lifts, T3 will also have travelators to reduce commuting time from one place to another inside the three-kilometre long terminal building.
