Now Change Your Operator Not Your Mobile Number

The mobile number portability (MNP) services is set to start from Rohtak in Haryana today.  Customers in Haryana will have the option of changing their service provider without changing their mobile number.

MNP will be introduced in India, in two phases. It will first be introduced in Indian metros and Category A telecom zones, on December 31, 2010, and subsequently in the rest of the country, by March 20, 2011.

Prepaid users must remember that their balance talk time will disappear if they switch to a different operator. The new connection will be a maximum of two hours.

There are eight mobile operators in Haryana: Airtel, Idea Cellular, BSNL, Aircel, Loop, Vodafone, Etisalat and Videocon. The customer has to pay maximum of Rs. 19 to new operator to change network.

The minimum stay period with one operator for consumer is three months. Customers willing to change their service provider without change of number will have to send an SMS from their phone to 1900.
